Now, these two (Smoot & Collins) don't want the state to get involved in the HUGE problem that Jefferson county is in with all their money problems.  That want to take care of it.  Well, if memory serves me correct these two were a major part of the problem that now exists.  I don't think there is enough intelligence on the commission (putting all of them in one sack and mixing them up) to take care of the very problem that THEY CREATED in the first place.  But I am sure they are living the life of luxary at the expense of the poor taxpayers on Jefferson county.  Shame on them.  Some of the things that have surfaced in the past year or so nationally, with politicans taking money (they have not earned) just gives credit to what I have always said;  "There is no such thing and a honest, truthful politican".  I don't like any of them.  Now one of their x-commissioners (wasn't he the president of the commission) is fast leading Birmingham down the same path of fininical ruin.  I have always said on any post that I have written I REFUSE TO BUY ANYTHING IN ANY CITY WITHIN THE COUNTY OF JEFFERSON.

WHAT WILL THIS IDIOT DO NEXT? He is now taking money from the dome WE DID NOT WANT and putting it into the delapidated gang infested fairpark area. Whatever this fool builds there will be destroyed in a few years, just ride through the neighborhoods in that area. I lived in the central park area for 20 years,it was nice, quiet clean and safe. Now it's a dump!!this next moronic thing proves he should be put away. He spent city money to buy 2,000 burlap bags??? and he's going to hand them out for people to wear. PLEASE people, this lunatic has got to GO!!! Brice,,, get a rubber room ready.

Betty said" We will not pay the payment or go Bankrupt", sure wish my creditors was as nice as Jefferson County creditors. Betty and Shelia do not want an outsider looking at any of the COOKED Books! Your sins will find you out!

to villham, I am a 30 year old woman, married with a child. I respect the country you grew up in, but now our country is full of greedy, petty people holding all the cards and getting wealthier by the minute while it's harder for the younger generation to even get established. The military and civil employees are some of the lowest paid which make them less desirable jobs and between tv, internet and music, the younger generation behind me is not even being given any motivation, inspiration, or morals. It's sad about who REALLY gets heard and helped in this country. I respect alot of the wealthy people because someone had to work hard but it's made a mess of mankind now

olkskoolj:

I think one of the most important reasons that the younger generation as well as yours have not been inspired by their PARENTS. There are way to many "helicopter" parents that hoover over their children and defend them no matter what they do. Most are taught no respect for authority: i.e., teachers, law inforcement officials. When I was growing up if anyone in the neighborhood saw a young person doing wrong they corrected them and if they didn't do what they were supposed to their parents were gotten in touch with and they dealt with like they needed to be dealt with. I still go along with the old saying "spare the rod and spoil the child".

Do, Do Do Do Do for the young people. Have a new car waiting on them when they turn 16. Buy them designer clothes. I started cleaning chicken manure out of chicken houses when I was nine years old. When I was 12 I would ride my bycicle 18 miles to Jasper where I could earn some money cutting grass or raking yards. NO BODY gave me anything. I bought my own clothes/shoes with money I earned. We never had a TV. No phone and most assurdely no games to play except out side where most of them need to be today instead of in the house watching TV, DVDs, playing games on the what ever box. Talking on their cell phones. Listening to music on their IPOD or chatting with no telling who on the internet.

What happened to parenting?????????????????

TO: olkskiilj:

One more thing. Why do kids today think they should start at the top or near the top in any job. Let them work their way up. As far as not being given any motivation. My mother died when I was a young man and my father left when I was around ONE year old. I have been on my own since I was eighteen. There was NEVER anyone to let me have a quarter. I worked for everything that I have. I had to learn to budget my money or else I didn't eat for several days until the next pay-day. Like I said I had NO one to fall back on for any assistance and I made it. As far as you saying the military and civil employees are some of the lowest paid which make them less desirable jobs. Let them be on their own. Let them learn responsibility instead of picking them up every time that stumble. I makes for a better person if they learn respect for authority and that they have to do for their selves. As far as the military/civil employees I retired and I am proud of my retirement. I earned it. Not bragging, but I will tell you that my retirement is around $5,000.00 each month. That is more than most working people earn each month. No bad for a retired military/civil emplloyee. That is not counting what I earn from my CDs and other investments. See, growning up with out any outside assistance made me a better person and I would serve society well if kids now days are taught a little. Your handle is olkskiilj: (I would guess that meant from the OLD SCHOOL) No you are not from the old school, but I would call myself being from the OLD SCHOOL. Good luck in you l

Betty has had one too many martinis. The whole commission is and always has been corrupt. They want the dome, the fair park, etc...OK PEOPLE LETS LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED TO VISION LAND WHEN MR LANGFORD WAS IN CHARGE OF THAT. For goodness sake the man bought 2000 burlap sacks. Although I agree with prayer, he could have invested that money back into the bankrupt county. They should also take the "city tax" that they are illegally taking out of our checks each week to pay for their blunder. Lord knows they have gotten almost a 100,000 in the last 10 years from me.

Be sure to check the status of the city of Fairfield where LL was the mayor. Have you been through there lately. It is a shame and disgrace!!!!!!!! He helped Fairfield, Visonland, Jefferson County and is now working on the same fate for the city of Birmingham!!
I bet my bottom dollar, my retirement and everything else that he will succed in bringing the city down the same path of destruction.

Villham, I have to agree with you there. I am so glad I don't live in Birmingham or Jefferson County. I work there and that is bad enough.

to: abasketcase.

I'm glad you agree. If more people were like me and rufuse to buy anything in any city in Jefferson country they would not get our tax money. I bought my last three new vehicles in Cullman. I try to do most of my shopping either in Walker county (where I live) or in Cullman. The people in Cullman are the nicest that I have ever met in a retail enviroment.
They bend over backwards to help. You know what you must deal with in most of the retail establishments in Jefferson county and especially the city of LL (birmingham).

bigmenrin, you're dead on the money! They don't want anyone looking into their activities too closely or they will all end up in prison. What bothers me is Bob Riley want to us RSA to bail them out. RSA (retirement systems of Alabama) is Bob's favorite target to solve any problem. Why he hates teachers, firefighters and police officers is unknown to me but he has tried repeatedly to get his nasty hands on our pensions. Betty and crew created the problem let them solve it! Investors gambled in buying the bonds so let them or the insurance company suck up the lose and sue Betty and company!

Ms. Smoot does not want any money spent if it is not spent in the B'ham area. Just like building a ballpark in McCalla for the kids to play ball. The other day they showed her yelling at Humphries. She thinks the only way she can talk is to tell and it gets her camera time. I feel if you have to yell, about making
a point you aren't very smart to start with. Ms.Smoot and Betty FINE need to both go and let somebody with a little sense take over.

Bear Sterns and most banks are federally insured. That is, the fed agrees to pay if they default. Sewer programs are usually funded by municipal bonds. A bonding company ales bonds to investors, usually there is some form of insurance, and the investor takes a risk for profit. Any person so stupid to give the clowns in the Jefferson County Commission anything without checking them out deserves what they get! The members of the Commission should be held accountable and be forced to pay the funds out of their own pockets! Politicians waste or money like water over a dam, it’s time they were held to task for their misspending and incompetence. If they miss use or steal our money they should have to pay with their own! Sell their houses, sell their cars and seize their assets, and if more is needed make them work it off! If we make an example of them then future thieves, I mean politicians will think twice about signing up to rob us blind!
