Al Sharpton is a very street smart guy. He has managed to have a life long career stirring the racial pot. He does not carry a race card, he carries a deck of race cards. He has one for every situation. Whether it applies or not does not matter. He acheives his objective by simply showing up and blasting the same old retoric. Even though the laws have been written and equality is what an individual makes of it, he is still marching in Selma. Each individual has the same opportunities if they have the motivation and intelligence to go after it. It is not an entitlement like many want to beleive, but a path that is difficult for anyone no matter what color they may be. Even Al has to say things have changed. As far as descrimination, the black community has been given many opportunities that other people do not have, but it is never enough for Mr. Sharpton. Would Al Sharpton have showed up in New York for his photo op if the victim had been Hispanic, White or Asian? I agree that Mr. Bells out and out murder was a horrific miscarrage of justice, but I do not need Al Sharpton to show up and make a spectical of himself in order for me to make that judgement. This kind of showboating is Al Sharpton earning his pay. Who else can go to jail one day and meet with the Governor of New York the next. The only other one that comes to mind  is good old Jesse J. who shares Al's compassion for stirring the pot. I do not beleive that the average educated black American depends on Al Sharpton to speak his outdated retoric on behalf of them. I grew up in the sixties and I have left that time where it should be, in the past. Dr. King had an agenda and made positive planned steps toward acheiving the goals that he thought would best move his agenda forward. He did not run all over the world for photo ops.  I cannot beleive Dr. King would approve of people like Sharpton using his legacy and the people he fought for all those years as a petty income for himself. Al Sharpton has an agenda and it is completly self promoting. What makes me have so much disdain for people like Sharpton is, you never see him doing anything proactively. It always has to be a national news story and  a photo op in order for him to book himself into the picture, literally. He is always looking for an oppotunity to share the headlines and stir that pot. Al Sharpton will never be looked back upon as a civil rights leader in the catagory of Dr. King. No, he will be seen as a exhibitionist and a self promoting opportunist that has done absolutly nothing to further the black community's cause.

HE HAS AN EXCELLENT CAREER OF BEING A CROKK AND A RACIST!

Sharpton has made a living out of spreading racial disharmony. He is after his own personal agenda and, I honestly believe this, could care less about black people. He's done more to hurt race relations and keep black people down than he has to help any - as a matter of fact, I can't recall him doing anything that didn't further his own agenda.

Keith, you've made some excellent points, one of the most prolific, in my opinion, being "I do not beleive [sic] that the average educated black American depends on Al Sharpton to speak his outdated retoric on behalf of them." This is beyond truth. Neither Jesse nor Al has ever spoken from me; I have picked my brain trying to remember if I've ever agreed with anything they've ever said and I think the answer is "no".

Progress I am for. The perpetual trip down "woe is me" lane I detest.

If there was racial harmony then some people would not be getting a paycheck and the power and national exposure that goes along with it. Until everyone realizes we're all Americans and quit the "you owe me stuff" nothing is going to change. Oh, something else I don't get. My ancestors came from England and in the late 1800's, Germany. I don't call myself a Euro-American or German-American. I AM AN AMERICAN. No dilutions, no hyphenations. I don't think America is a melting pot anymore -- heck, I don't even think we're using the same kitchen, much less the same pot.

Al Sharpton is the epitome of today’s American culture. It’s all about me! Everyone seems to be waiting for opportunity to come knocking on their door and drag them by the hand to the Promised Land. Certainly not all, but most of our young people today are mimicking this philosophy. What’s in it for ME? What have you done for ME lately? Me Myself and I, the new holy trinity. Sharpton and those like him are a symptom of a larger illness. It seems everyone needs a “Whipping boy” or scapegoat. Someone to blame for our woes. It’s easier to blame someone else for your problems than to take ownership and deal with them. It’s like when you’re speeding and get caught, it’s easier to blame the cop than to take ownership. And as long as we have these feeling, there will be those who pray on and profit from us. We make it possible for these people exist and we have the power to rid ourselves of them, by taking ownership! I did you wrong I’m sorry. Let me make it up to you! Ownership!

How does he get away without paying his taxes and they went after Wesly Snipes. I guess that is why he did not stand up for Wesly because he would draw attn to himself for once he does not want the attn.

Al Sharpton is only going to fight the fight that is obvious to Stevie Wonder! Look at every stand he has ever taken, they we slam dunk, no brainers! Except the Twana Brawley thing which came back to bite him in the butt.
