Senator and assumed presidential candidate Barak Obama recently proclaimed that if we started drilling off shore for oil right now it would be 2017 before we could reap the beneifts of such drilling.  His point was, why bother, we'd be 8 years away from having any of it.

Given that rationale, why do anything?  Why go to college in hopes of getting a good job?  I mean it'll take four years to finish.  It takes even longer to be a doctor.  Why would anyone bother?

A guy once met with a guidance counselor about going to college.  As he was 35 years old, he told the counselor that he'd be 39 when he graduated.  The counselor, in turn, asked the man how old he would be in four years if he didn't go.

The point is we're not going to use any less petroleum-based products than we do now.  It makes no difference how much we conserve, recycle, save, whatever...  The bottom line is that the population continues to increase and our demand on petroleum will continue to increase as well.  Why should we demand that the Saudis increase oil production?  Why don't we get off our environmental high horse and do something ourselves?

You are right of course about our insane energy policies. For years I have heard politicians from all over the country saying we need to get off foreighn oil. What have they done about it?

If the goal is to become more energy independent, Mexico would only be a stop-gap measure. The bottom line is we need to be helping ourselves with our own exploration and drilling, rather than waiting on some other country to do it for us. I have not looked in to what or how much Mexico could bring to the table, but I personally thing we're in it enough with them already.

Of course there's our good ol' friend Hugo Chavez in Venezuala, too. I cannot fathom how people can and do buy oil and gas from this madman.

If we're not drilling today and next week, we're just prolonging the agony and digging ourselves in deeper into a mess that we have no hope of winning - independence from foreign oil.

I just read on myFox.com where some old guy in I believe North Dakota, said they drilled on his property and found oil underneath his sod field or something like that and now he's a millionaire. (no it wasn't Jed Clampett). So if they found oil in North Dakota underneath a sod field, then something tells me there's oil other places than Texas.

The oil companies need to do more researching and they may find we have enough oil here under our own soil and fields, all they would have to do is be willing to purchase a little bit of land to do some testing, Why I bet there's some here in good ole Alibama.

We can't drill for oil but other countries can come over here and drill in our back yards (gulf coast). They drill and find oil then we still have to purchase it from them and if they were to have a disaster we'd have to clean that up as well and live with the aftermath for years to come. They'd pay a minimum fine and keep drilling and we'd keep purchasing it from them because we don't have a choice. It isn't the Republicans doing this it is the Democratic Senate doing it. People need to wake up and quit blaming everything on the President. I hate to think of what will happen if Obama wins.
