S. O. S. now I know what you're thinking; but I'm saying Same - Ole - Story, only this time different personnel. The county commission must think that if they play stupid long enough their fairy tale saga will soon be over.
I say call Dave Ramsey; he's a financial goo roo who helps people get out of debt. Why shoot, he may not even charge $ 75, 000 a month. Dave may only charge half of that and from the savings Dave Ramsey has benefited the county, then our roads might be improved. Wait; did I say our roads ? what was I thinking ? the roads haven't been improved since they went from dirt to asphalt.
The consulting firm that was going to charge $ 75,000.00 a month, you know would take their dear sweet time and still NOT accomplish any thing. Why; if some one was paying me even half that amount I'd take my time, what do they say? Don't rush get in a big hurry ?
The simple answer is take the $ 75,000.00 put it toward the debt instead of the consulting firm (s) and in a few months, or even years the debt would be paid. Just as you would do your own personal affairs. That my friends did NOT come from Dave Ramsey either.

Here is some good news for Birmingham, the Tijeras Foundation in Albuquerque, N.M. ranked Birmingham as the most generous city in the U.S.A. out of 60 metro areas! We give around 3.6 percent of our household income to charities every year! 2nd was Memphis at 3.4 percent and 3rd was columbia at 3.2 percent. Now with Alabama having a lot of reglious people that is not a suprising fact. I wish we gave more to charities but with the economic problems it is getting harder to give to less fortunate people.

I know what my plans for the Fourth are. After I get off work here at FOX6, I'm going shopping at some of the fine sponsors of FOX6 programming. Then, I'm going to watch FOX6 all day while cooking up some food that I bought from FOX6 sponsors. Then I'm going to watch the awesome FOX6 sponsored Thunder on the Mountain. Then maybe I can get a FOX6 raise...

Another example of why we need film dollars. This is preventable by
bringing dollars into our state. There is no need to wonder or study as it has worked
for the states surrounding us.

I ask why is one of the best-known movie directors in the world,
making a film about world famous Alabama Airman in Europe?
The ugly and costly answer lies squarely on the shoulders of our state
legislature, or should I say at their feet, somebody done dropped the ball!!!
George Lucas is currently shooting a documentary of the Tuskegee Airman
not in Alabama, but in a foreign country.
Millions and millions of film industry dollars surround Alabama. Many great
projects filmed in other states, solely because of our inability to offer
production companies incentives to shoot here. Alabama Sen. Tom Butler
introduced two bills in the state house in hopes of renewing the sales, use and
lodging exemptions that expired in September 2006. The incentive bills did not
pass and this has hampered the film commission's efforts to pull in
filmmakers, though they have not been deterred. Another group of winners for
Alabama, they never quit.
Forrest Gump is among many movies set here but filmed in other
states. That is a travesty, an injustice to our population. I equate it to
Alabama football being played in Jackson MS instead of Tuscaloosa, its just the
wrong place!
The many cities and towns, the businesses small and large that
could benefit so much from the input of those millions into our
struggling economy. The artist of Alabama that cannot get their projects made
here because other states like Louisiana offer a better deal. Do not forget the
extras, paid cast in the background that proudly gets to live forever
on the silver screen, just the same as any star.
Showing off the landscape and resources of our beautiful state should be
a high priority of our state government. Why send Senators Shelby and
Sessions on a trip to one country when Reese Witherspoon and Tom Hanks could
show our great state to millions of people around the world, and pay us to do
it!
I humbly request that the brilliant leadership of our most honorable and great
state quit sitting on their hands and Vote yes to bring those movie dollars
that are all around us to where they belong,
Sweet Home Alabama!
Alabama citizens and voters, DEMAND these dollars
for our state by contacting your elected officials and getting this
issue into the light. This should have taken place already and every
day our film commission works without the benefit of these incentives,
we are watching real money given to other states that should be in
Alabama. Unlike other industry, film crews come in and infuse communities with dollars immediately. Imagine your city or local community with thousands to millions of dollars being spent in weeks to months. It happens in states all around us!
Please pass this on to everyone in and for Alabama,
BE LOUD and ask WHY are you giving our money away?!?
Email, Phone, Fax the Governor,
Call you mayor, Call your Representatives!

in Alabama in connection with the Qualified Productions.
Supporting Facts
Alabama’s Entertainment industry is underdeveloped and falling behind as 41 States have
passed
incentive programs stimulating growth or has proposed incentives to
develop their Entertainment industry in recognition of the role the
industry can play in
economic development.
Louisiana was the first to enact an aggressive incentive program in 2002 which resulted in
catapulting the state’s film industry to the top 3
nationally.
Once
the Incentive Bill passed in 2002 the Louisiana film industry grew from
supporting 5,437 jobs and having $7.5 million in output in 2003 to
supporting 18,882 jobs and producing
$343.8 million in output in 2005.
1
The economic impact of direct in-state spending in Louisiana is dramatically increasing.
The percentage of production budgets that stayed in Louisiana was 33 percent in 2005, 72
percent in 2006 and 87 percent in 2007.
2
The
Shreveport Chamber of Commerce states that the industry infused more
than $360 million into the Louisiana economy in the first half of 2006.
3
Total direct impact to Louisiana's economy is $1.48 billion.
4
The current significance of the industry in Alabama is a tenth of what it is nationally in
terms of gross domestic product and employee compensation and a third in terms of employment.
With the right incentives,
Alabama’s Entertainment industry will create high quality, high
paying jobs and the fiscal impact can be beneficial to the State economy.
Growing the industry can spur small business and entrepreneurship development, generate
tax revenue, promote tourism, and help develop infrastructure.
Entertainment Industry growth in the United States will increase from $582 billion in 2006
to $745 billion in 2011
Filmed entertainment will expand at a 4.9 percent compound annual rate, rising to $103
billion in 2011. Digital cinemas will help the expansion of the marketplace. High Definition
DVD’s will stimulate home video sell-through. This increase will fuel the “production engine.”

"Yes, even more so, yes." That's the answer I give every time (and it is frequent) I'm asked "Is Devon Walsh really that nice/talented/smart/funny/pretty in person?"
I'll admit (for the first time publicly) here to you the faithful blog readers that I was very intimidated by Devon Walsh the first time I met her when I started here last October. But she was disarming and easy to talk to, and since then we've swapped stories and advice more than once, and last week as I enjoyed anchoring a last pair of shows with her we cracked each other up so much during commercials that more than once I had to compose myself with seconds to spare before going back on camera.
Having been at FOX 6 for less than a year, I'll make no claims to be the staff member closest to Devon, or even in the top 5, but I do consider her a friend, even a good friend, and believe there are thousands of viewers who feel the same way. Whip smart, quick on her feet, and known for being able to recover quickly from a "technical difficulty," Devon can seem calm and collected on camera even if she's only run into the studio still finishing her makeup with less than 30 seconds to spare (it happens, more than once :). And as I've told her more than once, she can deliver a story that some of us cynics might roll our eyes at with a sort of knowing wink to the audience that is one of the trademarks of her success here.
Devon, her husband, and beautiful new baby boy are heading home as I'm sure you've heard, and we're all excited for them in what will be a great and probably long-term phase of their family's life. But we can't help but be a little selfishly sad for ourselves at losing one of the people who makes this place tick. And to answer the next question I'll be asked about her in public-----yes, Devon paid me handsomely to write this ;)

Today I was at the Huntsville Airshow when a small thunderstorm blew in the winds were recorded at 48mph and there was at least 12 injured and 1 fatality. A 5 year old boy lost his life when an airconditioning unit blow over and killed him. In my pictures I took you can see the yellow tape and in the right hand potion of the photo the mother of the boy was being treated due to loss of consciousness from the loss of her son.

I have to let you all in on my excitement. A little over a year ago I posted a blog about my youngest son going to war in Iraq. I wasn't happy about it. What mother would be. Well my soldier and many other soldiers are expected home this week. While I am happy to be going to the homecoming celebrations, I am also saddened that so many others have been sent to replace the ones coming home. All over the USA we have families missing loved ones. It is so important that we all remember these families and their soldiers. Please take a few minutes to remember them. Get your churches and organizations to collect items to send to our soldiers. They all need so many things. Just goggle adopt a soldier. You will be directed to sites that will help you find a soldier that would love to receive a letter, card, or some hygene items. I can't imagine being deployed and not having soap. Right now the current daily temp. in Iraq is up to 120 degrees during the days. And we think it is hot here. Imagine not being able to wash that off with soap. Our soldiers needs are simple. So go adopt a soldier. These sites also have lists of what can be sent. Our soldier are working for us 7 days a week. My son once told me "Mom I am doing my job" And what a wonderful job he has. Its hard, its trying, its a lonely job.......................but thousands do it ever day. They do it for us. No matter what individual opinions of this war are, we all must come together and support our fellow Americans fighting for our freedoms. I know this is all from the heart of a mom, but our soldiers need us as much as we need them. So if I can encourage just one person to send a box of supplies, then yippee. And the US Postal Service is giving a special rate on Flat rate boxes sent to APO address's. Be sure to pick up your free box at the post office. They will also assist you in filling out the customs form. Its easy to do and you will make someones day. How easy is that? As I sit here on my porch, typing on my laptop computer, I am in awe of the American citizen. We are strong and we are compassionate, we are good people. Thank you all for listening to me over the last 14 months. I really don't know what I would have done without all the outlets I had to vent my feelings. Thank you.

Deven you seem to be a very nice lady. I am going to say though that I hate the way Fox 6 treated David Neal. He seemed to be a really nice guy.
