When America was first settled there were many more indentured servants than slaves.  Would it not be fair that slave decendants pay indentured servants reparations? By the way most indentured servants {white slaves] were white.

LOL....this is a joke, right?

If that's the case, why wouldn't it be more appropriate for those decendants of indentured servant owners pay the reparations......why the slave decendants?

It would make as much sense as anybody paying any reparations that they had nothing to do with.

A huge number of immigrants arrived in this country long after slavery so are they responsible?

My family never owned slaves and I was born as dirt poor as any slave descendant so am I responsible?

Very few in the south, including blacks, had anything left after the Yankees robbed and raped it. Are their descendants responsible?

Sue those Yankees that took it all if you can. I'd like my share of that.

The whole idea about reparations is ridiculous.
I believe our tax dollars have more than payed anything that is or was deserved to slave descendants.

I know that I have never asked or received any government assistance, handouts or freebies but have certainly payed my share to support those programs and I wasn't even responsible.

I worked 2 jobs for years to pull myself out of poverty so maybe I'm the one that should gripe.

No one in this country, nor is our government responsible. The same goes for apologies. There are very few 140 year or older people around these days so it's time to move on.

I believe most people including blacks are sick of hearing about this. Does any black feel cheated because their ancestors were brought here? Would they want to go "back" even if they knew where "back" was?

The argument about wealth attainment doesn't hold water. Africans wouldn't have been here if it wasn't for slavery and how much wealth could have been attained in Africa?

If you were to be born today and had a choice, would it be in Africa or the USA?

You hit the nail on the head.....I, for one, think it's a bunch of hogwash, myself. And the same can be said for "apologies" for slavery.

I don't think anyone owes anyone else anything. Let's admit it happened, none of us had anything to do with it and move on with some current issues that we can affect. We cannot change what happened, but we can ensure that something similar doesn't happen again.

I picked up this quote by Booker T. Washington at PatriotpostUS. Hope they had it correct.

“There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs—partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.” —Booker T. Washington

Certainly sounds like Mr. Washington. I hope it is. And given our current climate in America, I'm inclined to agree with it regardless of who said it.

Thank you, thomas7. Can we say Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc. Add to the list as you see fit. And do you know what else-- black "leaders" such as these are what's keeping the black people "down", so to speak; not the evil white man.

I agree with Suzee, the black so called leaders, are keeping the thing in the news. I believe that they are like Hosea Williams use to be. Everytime his bank account got a little low he would gather up a few people that he had brainwashed and march on Cummin Georgia. I think that the really bad part is they are raising the children with the same hate that they have carried around all these years.

I personally wish that someone would publish a list of affluent black people who owned slaves. Most people aren't aware that this happened. It might shock a lot of black people to find out that their ancestors owned slaves.
