The Alabama primaries are on February 5th, and I haven't a clue who to vote for. None of the candidates spark my interest and all of them have skirted around an issue that I have a lot of interest in- IMMIGRATION.

The few souls that I have talked to all say the same thing- "They don't want to touch it because it is controversial. They don't want to lose votes..." My questions is, lose votes from whom? When did illegal immigrants gain the right to vote? And for those immigrants who have become citizens, how many of them actually exercise their right to vote? I don't get it.

Congress is on the trail of steriod users......while there is a war going on.....while the country is spiraling into a recession.....while education is becoming a futile effort.....and while our boarders are becoming a proverbial wide-open gate.....

I teach some of these students (remember, schools cannot question the legal status of these children, and neither do they have to be immunized), and everything that they write and turn in to me is based on immigration (essays, speeches, etc.). Don't get me wrong- I love my students- ALL of them, but it just goes to show you that the mentality that they have is that they are right and WE are wrong. They don't think they should have social security numbers and such. One child said in his persuasive speech, "Keep building your walls, Mr. President, and we'll keep building our tunnels."  There are no absolutes for them and everything should be handed to them. This is the way that they think, and the presidential candidates have not tackled the issue (for real) at all. I'm a little baffled. And a lot upset.

This is the first time in the 10 years that I have been able to vote that I feel none of the candidates give a rip about me. Such a dreadful feeling......

Exactly Katie. Funny how you students have the right to free speech and most likely are illegal aliens soaking up the tax dollars taken from CITIZENS who actually pay taxes and are protected by the constitutions bill of rights which dooes not cover illegal immigrants. But yet you will be considered insensitive for saying such things. Your also right about this being by far one of the worst set of presidential candidates in history. The Dems want to please our enemies and the repubs are too spineless to say how they really feel. They all disgust me. I am starting to like Ron Paul more. At least he understands America is doomed if we continue running this country on people feelings. Love you post Lady! Thank God there are still teachers like you out there.

As a single woman who aspires to be married and have babies one day, I am so concerned about the world that my children will be brought into. No absolutes- no consequences for negative actions. It's when I feel like this that my faith has to take control.....

Today, we had a homework assignment due and one of my Hispanic boys complained that he didn't have time to complete it because he had to work until 11- mind you, he's fifteen years old. I thought that was illegal. Education is secondary to them- working to make money comes first. As long as they continue with that mentality, they will never go beyond the service-oriented jobs that they mostly dominate. I do have two very intelligent Hispanic children who have so much potential. I continue to encourage them to do well in school so that they can go to college (that's if they have social security numbers) and do more than the minimum.

It's the doggone entitlement mentality - I made it to the country, now I want everything handed to me. That's ridiculous. It infuritaes me when people believe that they are entitled to anything by simply existing. How about some effort?! A little contribution?! This has been a huge problem in America and is only going to exacerbated by allowing amnesty programs, etc. As far as presidential candidates: tell me - better yet, SHOW me who you are - back up all the talk and rhetoric - take a stand. I have more respect for someone that takes a stand for a noble cause and goes down swinging than I do for someone just telling me what I want to hear because they think its what I want to hear.
