The Jefferson County Sewer Debt Crisis has been going on for what seems like years. Now, with 3 possible solutions on the table, the Jeffco Commissioners are turning to you, the voters, who will have to deal with the ramifications of whatever decision is made. Many have said it's too late(Click here to watch Alan Collins' Thursday report)...but what do you think?

Do you think the public hearings are an effective way to get feedback on the sewer debt?

Let us know what you think and your comment could be read on a FOX6 News broadcast.

As a fan, I went last night to see The Dark Knight. But I have been asked several times "Why? Why go see a movie at midnight? Can't you just wait until later?" I said, "NO!!" There has been so much buzz around this movie, not only because it is a sequel for one of the most famous superheroes ever...but because the reviews for the late Heath Ledger have been FANTASTIC. I just couldn't wait...

So what about you?

Are you planning on seeing The Dark Knight this weekend?

-Yes
-No

Let us know your plans, thoughts and your comment could be read on FOX6 News.

This past week has been interesting. A lot has happened here in Birmingham and nationally as well.

The list is in no particular order

  1. I just got back from NYC. They took my 1/2 jar of body cream b/c the original amount was more than 3 oz. Ridiculous...I was so mad...and they took my shaving cream...talk about upset.
  2. Cullman. What to say? Can't we all just get along? My producer Ty told me not to stereotype all of Cullman for the repeated crimes of vandalism...maybe even hate crimes in that county over the past few days. He's right...but that is probably one of the most feared counties to people of color in the state. People GROW UP!! None of us are "pure bred"...whatever...no one should care...we are all people on the inside...stop the hate. It's disgusting.
  3. Shaq- He needs to focus on shooting free throws instead of shooting down Kobe. I am not only a Lakers fan, but a Kobe fan. This man (Kobe) is doomed if he does...and doomed if he doesn't. Shaq is 7-1, but he needs to grow up. Granted everyone was "thinking" it...but he should have been a grown man and left it alone...Kobe must be sitting back and laughing up all the sympathy he is receiving right now...yeah, Boston won, but poor Kobe...
  4. On Thursday, Jesse Jackson and A.C. Green were in town...what you all didn't see...15 minutes before the 7am GDA show began...the computer systems in the entire building failed. No one had a script. The only thing anyone had was "1" tape list. Kudos should go to all our team for their extra hard work yesterday morning. (Anyone remember Kudos? My mom used to buy them for my lunch all the time...good memories...)
  5. Moving on...Paying tribute to our servicemen and women and their families for their sacrifice...so important. You may feel weird doing it...but just say thank you...please.
  6. I'll be saying this for awhile...so get used to it...Get registered to vote and VOTE!!!
In the past power wasn't measured by how much money you had...but by whether or not you could VOTE...I don't care who you VOTE for as long as you VOTE...If you don't VOTE...you have no right to complain about your city, your county, your state, or your nation. You loose that right when you don't VOTE. If you have been convicted of a felony, petition to have your voting rights restored...even if it was a crime of moral turpitude...keep fighting...keep going...Rock the Vote 2008!!!
  7. Know your STATUS. Today is National HIV Testing Day. One reason, The Stonewall Riots happened this day in 1969...where the LGBT fought back against NYPD harassment. New cases are on the rise in men engaging in sex with other men and is exploding among the people of color male population as well. So please, for everyone, wrap it up and get tested and know your status. Live.
I guess those are all of the "random" thoughts about what's happened this week at FOX6. Have a good weekend. =D

Don Imus is at it again.

While I was getting ready this morning...they were playing snippets of Don Imus' radio show from yesterday.

Pacman Jones...who now wants to be referred to as "Adam Jones"...has been in the news a lot recently...the most recent..this weekend when reports came out that his may have been foreclosed. On his morning radio show broadcast through Citadel and ABC, one of his producers commented that Mr. Jones had been arrested numerous times (which he has) since his joining the Tennessee Titans in 2005.

That's not the issue...the issue is what happened next.

Without any prompting whatsoever, Imus asked..."What color is he?" They answered that Mr. Jones is an African-American and Imus responded: "Well, there you go. Now we know."

Listen here

Now my problem is...as a journalist of color...is understanding where race plays a role in this discussion. Jones has been in the public eye since 2005. It doesn't matter what color or heritage Jones claims. He is a person who has made some bad decisions. This has nothing to do with race...at least on the surface.

Fighting against stereotypes is something every journalist and broadcaster should commit themselves to doing. His comment does nothing but feed into the stereotype that black men are the only ones committing crimes and going to jail. In reality, African-Americans are overrepresented in the media in crime stories where they are the assailant...and underrepresented in stories where they are the victim.

In 2008, 40 years since the assassinations of Dr. King and RFK...we need to do everything in our power...in our personal and public lives...to stamp out the stereotypes that are embedded in our society. We live in a diverse society...let's start acting like it.

And just fyi...I am not a minority...just a person of color.

"This is how we do it. It's Friday night, and I feel all right. The party is here..."

In the words of Montel Jordan...it's time to party. Tonight, City Stages has some major headliners taking the stage. We each have our favorite and the minds on Producer Row want to know...

"What City Stages act are you most excited about seeing tonight?"

Let us know who you are going to see...and your comment could be mentioned on FOX6 News.

OK...by now...most you have seen that incredible video of the man getting hit...and bystanders...DOING NOTHING!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Well... some of you might not have seen it yet. You might want to click here and watch.

So the great minds here at FOX6 wanted to know...

What would you do if you witnessed a hit and run?

Would you stop and help, would you chase after the culprit, would you call the cops, or do like the people in that video...and do nothing.

Let us know what you would do (or not do) and your comment may be featured on FOX6 News.

Jefferson County is in a lot of debt. County Commissioners have been in negotiations for months with banks to get this issue resolved. Extension after extension has been filed. Now, the Commissioners have decided not to file for another extension. So we want to know from you...

At this point, what do you think is the next step in the Jefferson County Bond Crisis?

Leave a comment on my first blog and it could be read on FOX6 News.
